The Planet Trail at the banks of the river Traun is a special educational trail.
The “WRG of the Franciscan Wels” (a secondary education school with emphasis on economy and science) is dynamic when it comes to social and cultural activities. After extensive planning and broad preparatory work, the students realized a new project.
The so-called "Planet Path" was conceived with the aim of illustrating the charm of the unimaginable distances and magnitudes in our solar system: The exhibition is a permanent installation, extending along the north bank of the river from the old Traun Bridge in Wels, all the way to the water power station in Marchtrenk.
On the existing cycle and hiking trail along the river Traun, nine weatherproof showcases were mounted in relation to the distances of the heavenly bodies of our solar system. In the showcases, there are true-to-scale representations of the planets. The starting point and destination point is an artistically designed sun-disc at the old Traun Bridge.
