In the former Minorite monastery, there is now an exhibition on the early history of the town of Wels from the Neolithic period up to the time of the Bajuwaren (original name of the Bavarians). Particular attention is paid to the Roman era, which is very significant for Wels.
The Archeological Museum is devoted to anthropology and houses one of the most comprehensive records of human cultural history in the Wels Area. Materials from Neolithic Age through the early Middle Ages are well represented. The exhibition begins with information on excavations carried out on the site of the Museum that used to be a Minorite Abbey. Greatest strength of the Museum is the model of an early primeval settlement with original items on display. Holdings of the Roman era comprise the bulk of the Museum´s collections.
A time line that covers the years 0 AD to 500 AD provides visitors with an overview of Roman Times in Wels, in the entire Roman Empire and in civilizations of foreign continents.
