Parts of the mediaeval town wall can be still found today at the Zwinger or along the Pollheimer Park. The Babenberg Dukes built it in the 13th century.

The walls, which were up to 2 meters thick, were penetrated by shooting ranges and had a wooden battlement parapet walk. Fractions of it are still remained. Outside the town wall was a 4.5-meter wide kennel. Connected to it was a 22-meter wide and about 10-meter deep trench. In the south of the town, the wall ran in the area of the “Mühlbach”, in the east along todays “Adlerstraße”, in the north and west where “Ringstraße” and “Pollheimerstraße” are today.
